West Chester Men Drop Swimming Dual At Penn State

Meet Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
– West Chester’s men’s swimming & diving team brought home five first-place finishes, but it was not enough to overcome Penn State’s depth as the host Nittany Lions swam to a 180-103 non-league victory Friday night.

West Chester’s five wins were the most against Penn State in head coach Jamie Rudisill’s tenure on deck. The Golden Rams (4-2) captured the 50-yard freestyle, 200 free, 1000 free as well as the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Max Bernardes recorded the fastest time in school history in the 1000 free, other than a shaved and tapered championship time. He touched the wall in 9 minutes, 28.43 seconds in that event. His second-place finish in the 500 free (4:35.69) was the second fastest unshaved, untapered time in school history.

“Max had the dual meet of his career,” Rudisill beamed. “The men swam really well, winning the most races they ever have against Penn State.”

West Chester captured two of the top three spots in the 50 free and three of the top five spots in both the 100 fly and 100 free.

Ben Kuntz won the 100 fly in 51.14, continuing his strong showing for the Golden Rams since transferring in at the beginning of the semester. Marek Malopolski won the 100 breaststroke in 58.79.

The only other West Chester winner Friday was Matt Golebiewski, who touched first in the 200 free (1:41.86).

West Chester travels to Southern Connecticut State University Saturday for another dual meet on their current road trip this weekend.
